We attempt here to think emerging as what stands in an essential relation to submerging and thus is, in its essence (as emerging), somehow also a submerging. We attempt to think this—and our understanding stands still. We must fi rst of all reach that place where our understanding—that is, conventional thinking—stands still and sets itself on a different course.
